Closer

My child, so many people follow after other gods. They are distracted and filled with pride and rebellion. I want your focus to be completely on Me. Do you feel Me drawing you closer? Thank Me for what ever you are going through that makes you stick close to Me. It usually involves suffering to get your attention. Thank Me for your suffering. For you will come out the other side closer, deeper and more intimately related to Me than before.

Pride? Me?

All sin is ultimately rooted in what C.S. Lewis calls the great sin: pride: “Pride leads to every other vice; it is the completely anti-God state of mind.” (Mere Christianity) He says pride is essentially competitive in nature. And being so, the natural course of ego and conceit (pride, self-importance) is to demand our own way—no matter what God has to say about it. So it’s not hard to see why the Bible defines sin as “lawlessness.”

Lewis goes on to say that pride, “is one vice of which no man in the world is free; and of which hardly any people, except Christians, ever imagine they are guilty of themselves… and the more we have it in ourselves, the more we dislike it in others.” It’s not at all uncommon for Christians themselves to be oblivious to pride in their life, or at least not appreciate the extent to which this cancer influences them.

Pride is at the very core of the problem of sin because a demanding ego causes us to pursue the things of the world, where it’s easy to experience instant and tangible satisfaction for our misdirected needs—however deceptive and short term this fix might be.(1 John 2:16)

Being the offspring of self-will rooted in self-interest, ego constantly seeks to enhance itself in an attempt to satisfy the desires of the heart. When you think about it, it can easily be seen how all the sins described in the Bible are rooted toward serving this end. So, in our struggle against sin, it’s very helpful to understand why we continue to do what we do, even though we ultimately do not find it rewarding. Pride is the culprit, and the flesh is its instrument.

Passions and Desires

My child, I give you a glimpse of My plan for you by putting passion in your heart. But I want you to walk in faith and continue to keep your focus on Me. I don’t want you off doing your own thing. That only leads to pride and pride leads to destruction. If you rely on Me and offer up your passions and desires to Me, I can make something beautiful of your life. It’s not a bad thing to have these desires. It’s only that I want to continually be your first love.

Matthew 6:33

Pride & Rebellion

Receive counsel My child and live. Be on the alert for every form of pride and rebellion in yourself. This is why I require you to fully surrender all to Me so you won’t be trapped in pride and rebellion. Peace comes only when you are wholly devoted and fully surrendered to Me.

“Through insolence comes nothing but strife, but wisdom is with those who receive counsel.” Proverbs 13:10

Humble Yourself

My child, I am calling a humble people, for I will remove from your midst your proud, exulting ones, and you will never again be haughty on My holy mountain. But I will leave among you a humble and lowly people, and they will take refuge in the name of the Lord. My child, humble yourself under My mighty hand and I will lift you up. I the Lord your God am in your midst. I am your victorious warrior and I exult over you with joy. I renew you with My love and I rejoice over you with shouts of joy. I gather you together. I give you strength. I restore your fortunes before your eyes. it is by My hand and My power that I do this. Remain humble, and I will lift you up.
